Basic Campervan Maintenance

Basic Campervan Maintenance

on Jan 23, 2013

It has been nearly 3 weeks since we purchased the Campervan.  During this time we have spent quite a few mornings in the Campervan playing cards and eating.  We have also spent a night in the Campervan which gave us the opportunity to try out the Campervan. We, or rather Rob, has been great and also carried out some basic maintenance:- for a cost of $160 each replaced the mattresses.  Interesting fact (or maybe not): a caravan double mattress is smaller than a standard double; put a watercoat seal over the canvas.  With the canvas costing around $3,000 to replace it is worth water proofing it to get a few more years out of it. putting a wax over the zips and waterproofing them; and bought tablets to clean out the water tank – work in progress. For a cost of $385 the Campervan has been booked in for a service on 29 January.  Similar to a house structural inspection, we have also asked for a review of the Campervan and a list of items we should be concentrating on.  ...

Our First Morning

Our First Morning

on Jan 18, 2013

Nothing quite like waking up to the sun rise above the Sydney Opera House….. Alas this was not our first morning.  We woke to the wind blowing across our “sahara desert” drive way  –  we wait (patiently!) for our neighbours to find $5,000 to construct a new fence so we can complete the driveway.  But I digress. After our little girl asked us for the past week to sleep in the caravan we decided last night was the night.  So at 6:30pm, 4 trips to the caravan, everyone including the dogs were ready for our first night.  It was quite nice getting away from the box for the night – it is not as if we are missing anything. It also gave us an opportunity to try out the mattresses (let’s keep it clean – this site has a PG rating – plus have you seen the poles that support the beds!).  The night turned out really well as one of the mattresses was thicker than the other so this will need to get replaced before we venture out. I had also been trying to talk Rob into going down to Margaret River in May.  With the temperature dropping a little last night it made me appreciate living in the campervan and all the nooks and crannies where the wind comes in  –  I have now changed my mind. We returned to the house at 6:30am and in a strange way I felt like I had been away....

To Renovate or Not to Renovate

To Renovate or Not to Renovate

on Jan 15, 2013

We have been spending the past week trailing trawling through the internet looking for renovated camper trailers and inspiration. Whole interior painted white – doesn’t look quite right. I decided  I would really like white walls, red doors and red seat covers.  Rob felt that it wouldn’t be very relaxing.  I recently found this picture and, as much as it pains me to say this, I think I have to agree. Back to the drawing board…. If anyone has any inspiration they would like to share always open to...

With both bedrooms (can I call them that?) taken up there was nothing left for me to do but sit at the kitchen bench and read the newspaper.   The start of more to come?

Our First Adventure

Our first morning hanging out in the camper van.  The next door neighbour popped by and stick his head in. Next time we will hitch  the trailer to the car and drive off to find a more exotic location than our drive way.
